LESSON ONE
COLOUR THEORY
Length: 51 min
An Introduction to oil paints, brushes and mediums.
Discuss The Colour Wheel. Begin mixing exercises using both the cool and warm Primary Colours. Explore mixing the Tertiary colours, for example, I will show you that you can make all your browns and greys and earthy colours by just using the 3 Primary Colours. I will set some mixing exercises for you.

ACHIEVING VOLUME
Length: 35 min
Using black and white paint only, I will show you how to achieve tonal volume painting a 3D object. Choosing a simple object like a piece of fruit, you will be able to do this.
LESSOn THREE
Glazing with transparent colour
Length: 37 min
I will discuss the magic of glazing. This technique can transform your paintings from being good to great! We will use our dry black and white paintings done in the previous lesson, and bring them to life with coloured glazes.
LESSOn FOUR
BEGIN AN OIL PAINTING
Length: 32 min
Step by step, I will show you how to start with underpainting on a coloured primed canvas. Discuss tonal values, layering colour, and coloured glazes. All the techniques learnt from the black and white exercise will follow into this project. This can be any size the students wish to work on.

CREATING A PAINTING WITH TOOLS OTHER THAN BRUSHES
Length: 27 min
I will discuss the various ways in which you can achieve TEXTURE in your painting. I will demonstrate applying the paint with various tools and techniques to make your marks and build up the surface of your canvas. You will then be able to HAVE FUN with a project idea where these techniques can be used to make a SEMI ABSTRACT “landscape” painting.

I will show you how you can make a semi-abstract painting, having a photograph as a reference to be inspired by. I will demonstrate a
process of how to start a painting like this and lead you through step by step. You will then able to choose a photograph to work from and do this yourself.
LESSOn THREE
Painting on a black background
Length: 22 min
I will discuss the benefits and different effects you can achieve when painting on a black background. I will demonstrate to you how I start my paintings on this base and how I build them up from there. You will then have the opportunity to make a painting based on this
lecture and demo.
LESSOn FOUR
Painting with a palette knife
Length: 36 min
I will demonstrate a palette knife painting leading you through my process step by step talking about all the tips and tricks. You will then be able to have a go at doing a palette knife painting. The subject matter I would be suggesting is either a landscape of a simple still life.

ABSTRACT PAINTING

I will introduce you to the world of ABSTRACTION, non-representational painting, just using the elements of line, shape, colour and composition. I will refer to Abstract Artists work as examples and then show you ways you can approach an Abstract painting. You will explore using larger brushes, using mediums for transparent glazes, different forms of mark-making as well as making creative decisions about COMPOSITION.

How are the courses run?All of the painting courses are in a video format and can be accessed and used for learning in you're own time, there are no specific times that you need to be "in class".

Medium No.2 or Medium NO. 4 LIQUOL for glazing, blending, mixing etc… BRUSHES: A good range of brushes and sizes SOME LARGE GESSO BRUSHES and a variety of palette knives for mixing and doing palette knife painting.

What canvas & palettes do I need?You will need a Pad of Canvas Sheet. A3 if you can get it but if not A4. Any brand but the ones below are affordable and you can buy online. You will need a palette of some sort. this could be plastic plates, a pad of disposable tear off palettes or timber palettes. I have found all of these items available online from eBay, Office Works or Amazon just to name a few. All items around $10 or less. To do larger paintings I suggest you work on Stretched Canvases or Canvas Board. Once again, you can get a very affordable range of canvases online. The Mont Marte range of materials are very well priced. You will need some jars with lids, some rags, some charcoal and latex gloves if you are using oil paint and want to protect your hands.
